Were you ever watching Star Blazers when a sappy scene between Kodai and Yuki would happen? Did you ever wonder why they didn't do what we would normally think a couple would do--namely kiss?

Myself, with all the different versions and such I have seen, I know of only one kiss, and that's at the end of Final Yamato. The rest of the time we've had powerful embraces. When Yuki meets Kodai after his year in space, the couple doesn't kiss, they just join hands and spin around. At this point in Farewell Space Battleship Yamato, they're supposed to be getting married in three days, so why the restraint? At the end of the Comet Empire series, Kodai suggests that they get married--but still doesn't kiss her.

You get the idea. I think it's a question of emotional restraint that's discussed elsewhere on this site. On the other hand, maybe a kiss on the mouth was unseemly for two officers of an Earth Defense Fleet. Whatever the case for Kodai and Yuki, it's too bad they weren't living in the Macross universe of a few years later. There, emotions ran amok without shame or dishonor for the crew or their loved ones.
