Aha. We all knew it had to be going on somewhere in the crew's quarters, but it took the Internet to really bring it to our attention. Welcome to Yamato Rose, an interactive resource and commentary on the love and adventures of Susumu Kodai (Derek Wildstar) and Yuki Mori (Nova Forrester). These two were officers onboard the space battleship Yamato.

When I was watching "Star Blazers" as a kid I always knew there was something special going on between these two, but I could never put my finger on what bothered me about it. As an adult I see a little better the cultural differences between Japan and the United States. It's the awkwardness created by bringing Japanese culture into American television.

So all right, Kodai and Yuki never kiss. Only Yuki ever admits to loving Kodai, although it's pretty clearly mutual. They don't act the way we might imagine a couple in love acting. Whatever it is about them, they're captivating.

While Yamato Rose fouses on Kodai and Yuki, it's also about everything Yamato. There is now a picture gallery featuring images of the couple. "Reality Check" is the first piece of fan fiction, and everyone is invited to contribute.
